Goliath's Update's

surgery001.jpg

Here you can find my surgery updates and pictures.
Surgery is scheduled for Nov 4.

Goliath's surgery went fine today.  Dr. Suess reduced the slope of his knee from 45% to 20%.  Now we will wait and see how he heals.  We will be able to pick him up tomorrow morning.  We will all be happy to have him home.

11/6/04 Goliath came home yesterday, and we are happy to see that he is in good spirits.  He has to wear an e-collar until his stitches come up which is 11/18. He hates the collar and it is hard for him to get comfortable so we experimented with a different style but he hated that one also, so it was back to the "satellite dish".   He also has to be carried out to use the bathroom as he has severe restricitons on exercise.  Basically he has to be in his kennel at all times unless he is using the bathroom.

11/15/2004 ~ Sorry it has taken me so long to update.  Goliath is having a hard time adjusting to being in his crate so much.  Last week we had a little scare.  When I got home from work I noticed blood in his crate.  After closer examination we realized Goliath was bleeding from his incision.  We took him to the Cary St. Emergency center and they bandaged him up, and said he probably just knocked his leg or twisted it somehow.  He is off the antibotics now and we can see a major improvement.  He will go get his stitches out on Thursday.  Then I will update the site with more pictures (I need to get more batteries for our digital camera).

11/23/2004~Goilath had his stitches removed on 11/18.  The Dr. says he is making great progress, he' s actually doing better than most dogs at this stage of recovery!  He goes back to Dr. Seuss in 2 weeks  for another check up.  We are hoping for full recovery by the beginning of January.  After that we will have surgery on his left leg.  Jay and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome of this surgery.  Already Goliath has more energy and is displaying what  I would call borderline hyperness.  We finally got batteries for the digital camera so look for more pictures soon.

12/1/2004~ Wow, what a difference a few days makes!  Goliath has a check up on December 9th to monitor his progress.  I am sure it will be good though.  We are going to check and see if we can postpone his second surgery for a few weeks.  We are little concerned that Goliath is becoming "depressed" by having to be confined so much.  Hopefully it is not a big deal, but if the Dr. wants to go ahead asap with the second surgery we will definetly do it.  I would just hate to see Goliath any more down than he seems now.

12/9/04~ We haven't seen the vet yet today, but I did want to get an update in.  It's very obvious that Goliath is very tired of being confined so much so we are trying to allow him a little more time out of his crate.  However, that's a bit stressfull because we don't want him hurting his leg.  He should be getting x-rays in the next 2 weeks and that will tell us exactly how well the surgery worked for him.  I can already tell though, that he feels so much better.

12/13/04~ It's a definite, Goliath's second surgery is going to be Jan. 13.  We decided it's best not to wait.  And Goliath is in a much happier mood, he does not need to stay in his crate as much.  Mainly he just needs to stay in it when we are not there.  We put baby gates up to the kitchen so he will not slip and fall by walking in there.  Sabrina is happier too, she finally has her playmate back.

12/28/04 ~ Sorry it has been so long since we have updated the website.  Things have been crazy with the holidays.  Goliath is doing pretty good.  We have noticed slight lameness in his left leg now.  We were  expecting that though because Dr. Seuss said now that he has a good leg it will become a lot more noticeable which leg is bad.  And we are putting Goliath back on restriction, we were trying to give him some freedoms but we don't want him to hurt his leg even more before the 13th.  On another note he is getting extrememly spoiled now....that will probably come back to haunt us after he gets his second leg done.

1/14/05~Goliath came home and is doing well today.  Dr. Seuss said his first leg healed wonderfully so we are optimistic for his second leg.  He has the same restrictions as the first time.  I'm putting up some pictures, I apologize in all of them he is in his crate but he really didn't feel like coming out.  Surgery really takes a lot of a dog!

1/28/05~Goliath had his stitches removed yesterday.  Dr. Seuss said he is doing very well!  We have another appointment in two weeks, just another check up.  Then 4 weeks he will get xrays done again for the final ok.  We are confident that everything will be fine since his first surgery went so well.

2/28/05 ~ Wow, I hadn't even realized it had been a month since we last updated.  Goliath has his final appointment with Dr. Seuss on 3/9 they will do xrays and verify the surgery was a success.  We are optimistic though, the change in Goliath has been positive.  He is more energectic, enjoys playing with his sister and yes has become very spoiled throughout this whole process.  I will do a final update on 3/10/05.

3/14/05~Goliath had his final xrays and everything looks good.  He will aways look a little bow legged and he will limp when his leg is sore, but all in all the surgery was a success.  It's a huge improvement from where he was weeks months ago.  We are happy to have the "old" energetic Goliath back!
